We’re well into the winter now, and although the southern states aren’t feeling it yet, they’ll join their northern neighbors in the frigidity soon enough. Whether your home has excellent central heating or not, you may need to boost your heat output to stay comfortable when the chills arrive. The best way to do that is with a portable space heater such as the Dreo Solaris Max or the Sandvinder Space Heater. Now is the best time to act too, since Amazon is having a large sale covering many of the best models available.

Most portable heaters are close enough in form and function to be essentially identical, but there are a few aspects you can double-check before making your purchase.
The power of any given portable space heater is related with either a wattage or temperature range and sometimes both. The strongest usually top out around 1,500 watts or around 95 degrees, while the weakest settings are usually around 700 watts and the 60s degree-wise.
Most portable heaters don’t have oscillation so they can better direct their heat toward you. Higher-end heaters sometimes include the feature if the unit is meant to warm large spaces, such as living rooms and the largest bedrooms.
All portable heaters should have some safety features, and if they don’t have any, don’t buy it. At minimum you should check for automatic shutoff features, such as if it runs too long, gets too hot or tips over.
Better portable heaters have timers you can set that automatically turn them off or on. Some only have one timer, such as a 12-hour timer, but the best let you set your own timer with a large acceptable time range.
This smaller Dreo still has three heat settings and a fan-only mode for when the weather loops back around to hot. It has a carrying handle in the back so you can haul it with you from room to room and an included remote makes it easier to tweak settings.
Another small Dreo space heater, this model has a 70-degree oscillation to better spread your heat around and a decibel generation as low as 37.5, which is a little louder than a whisper. It also has an eco mode that can adjust the temperature to help you save on energy costs.
Space heaters can get noisy, but this small heater generates less than 45 decibels. That’s about as loud as a refrigerator humming. It also has a thermostat so you can set it and forget it, or you can use its three heating modes (and a fan-only mode for the warmer months).
This larger Dreo also has a 70-degree oscillation, plus it can heat up in just two seconds with between 900 and 1,500 watts of power. It also has a 12-hour timer and a 24-hour automatic shutoff for safety. It also has tip-over protection and a built-in temperature sensor to better maintain your ideal temperature range.
