During the holiday season, it’s hard to think about it almost being over. At the sad time when the holiday cheer starts to fade, though, you’ve got to think about how you’ll store your decorations so it can be revived next year.

Christmas organizer types

Christmas organizers come in three main varieties.

• Christmas tree decoration organizers are meant to hold all the small odds and ends you hang on your tree. These usually include organization methods, such as a removable cardboard grid that keeps ornaments from bumping into one another. It’s the most common type of organizer.
• Christmas tree organizers are meant to hold an artificial tree during the off-season. They’re usually large and bulky to best handle small, solid trees or the pieces of larger multi-segment trees. They don’t hold anything else, as the branches could easily damage whatever else is placed inside with them.
• Other organizers aren’t really organizers. Instead, they’re storage methods such as regular old boxes and bags. You use these to store large, bulky decorations such as stockings, Nativity scenes and yard decorations such as lights and inflatables.

Size and capacity

Before you buy a decoration organizer, consider its size and how much it can hold.

• Size: Whether empty or full, it needs a place out of sight to hang out. Usually, this means an attic, basement or closet. Triple-check that you have the space to hide the organizer away, or it will become its own kind of ugly year-round decoration.
• Capacity: The best organizer holds everything it needs to, with minimal or zero space left over. If you have so many decorations that you need multiple organizers, try your best to get just enough, so none has too much extra space. The exception is if you plan on adding to your decorations, in which case some extra room becomes desirable.

Design

Most decoration organizers are designed to resemble holiday livery. This usually means being solid red or a mix of white and red at minimum. Icons such as snowflakes, reindeer, Christmas trees and the like are also common.

Cost

Most basic decoration organizers cost $10-$30. More complex or larger ones can cost up to $60. For up to $100, you can buy multi-packs of organizers.
