Ways to save space when storing clothes

You might look at your bedroom and despair, thinking you can't possibly fit a dresser or a wardrobe. But don't be too quick to worry. There are plenty of space-saving ways to store clothes you might not have thought of. These are some of our favorites.

  • Under-bed storage: You can buy storage boxes that slide under a standard bed frame, opening up so much more space to keep your clothes in.
  • Shelving units: You can use bookshelves or other shelving units as a type of space-saving clothing storage. Use boxes or baskets that sit on the shelves to maximize space.
  • Clothes racks: Whether wall-mounted or freestanding, clothes racks take up a lot less space than a wardrobe.
  • Furniture with built-in storage: Benches, chairs, footstools — there are various types of furniture that have integrated storage space where you could keep clothes. You can also buy beds with built-in storage, although that's a big purchase unless you're looking to get a new bed frame anyway.

Buying multifunctional pieces of furniture is a great way to save space. So, instead of having a chair in your bedroom that serves as a clean laundry dumping ground, choose this upholstered bench that doubles up as seating and storage. Lift the seat and there's plenty of space to store clothes inside.

Wisucart Bamboo Under-Bed Storage Containers

Using the area under your bed is a great space-saving solution. It doesn't require any extra floor space and everything is neat and tucked away. Since these under-bed storage containers are on wheels, you can easily pull them out to access your clothes. They're made from sturdy bamboo and come with a dust-proof cover.

While this might technically be a laundry basket, you can also use it to store clothes. We particularly like it for storing clothes that are out of season that you don't need to access regularly. It looks good enough to have out on display in your room.
