We've all been going through it this winter. But if you've been watching the forecast like it personally owes you answers, there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel. The Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting a warmer-than-average and drier spring across much of the U.S., which means earlier thawing, less prolonged cold snaps, and — depending on where you live — less rainfall than usual as the season gets going.

According to the Almanac’s long-range forecast, above-average temperatures should hit most of the country, with a handful of exceptions (parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Colorado, notably). It's also expected to be drier than usual everywhere except Upper Alaska, Texas, Oklahoma, the upper Midwest and a few other regional areas. For gardeners, this means spring may arrive early, but watch for soil that dries out quickly and stress on young plants due to the lack of rain.
