Take a graham cracker and break it in half to make two squares. Break a chocolate bar to fit on one of the squares, and leave the other square to use as the top. Place a marshmallow on a stick and rotate it over the fire. When working with an open flame, it's best to let the fire die down so that you're cooking with the embers.
Cook the marshmallow until it's to your liking — whether that's golden brown, darker brown or burnt on the outside. The inside should be nice and gooey. Place the cooked marshmallow on top of the chocolate and top the marshmallow with the other graham cracker square. The cooked marshmallow should melt the chocolate.
You can use a conventional oven or a toaster oven to make s'mores. When making s'mores with a conventional oven, set it to broil (525 degrees). Place graham crackers that have been broken in half on a sheet pan. Put marshmallows on half of the crackers and broken squares of chocolate on the other half. Let the contents bake for one to three minutes. If you're using a toaster oven, you'll want to cook the s'mores longer (around three to five minutes) on the broil setting at the highest temperature. Then, put the pieces together and enjoy!
Alternatively, you can put a graham cracker square topped with chocolate and a marshmallow in the microwave, cook them on high for 20 to 30 seconds, then add the other square on top. You can use the same process to cook s'mores in an air fryer for two to three minutes at 400 degrees. If your stove has an open flame, you can roast marshmallows on it much like over a campfire. Marshmallows can also be toasted using a grill.
