Logitech

C920X HD Pro Webcam

Bottom Line

An easily mountable and lightweight webcam that worked exactly as advertised in our testing.

Pros

Its lightweight build makes it easy to mount on thin devices, yet still strong enough to mount onto tripods or desks. Simple, plug-and-play setup. Decent video quality along with 30 FPS makes it a solid streaming webcam and ideal for video calls.

Cons

The built-in microphone leaves a bit to be desired. Needs natural or ring light for best performance.

About the product

Logitech C920x HD Pro Webcam Single Product Review

Is the Logitech C920x worth it?

As more people begin working from home, webcams are becoming increasingly important. Many laptops have built-in webcams and speakers, but the video and audio quality leave much to be desired. The Logitech C920x promises crystal-clear video, thanks to its glass lens and 1080p camera. It also has dual microphones for natural-sounding call quality. The BestReviews Testing Lab tested the C920x in a home setting to see if it’s as good as Logitech says.

Testing the Logitech C920x

The BestReviews Testing Lab strives to investigate every claim the brand/manufacturer makes about the product. For this article, our testing team set the webcam up to see whether the process was simple. They captured video with it, paying close attention to any lag between their movements and the footage.

The testing team used the camera in various light settings to see if the light correction feature made a difference. They also listened to the sound from their recordings, judging whether the quality was up to par.

Finally, the testing team used the included software to blur their background while recording, comparing it to popular software like OBS.

What is the Logitech C920x?

The C920x is a mid-tier camera that works well for video calls and low-production video capture. The video quality is crisp in natural lighting, although you may need a ring light in dimly lit spaces. It has a slight delay between the subject and feedback, but it’s only noticeable when using low-power USB ports.

It captures 1080p video at 30 frames per second, meaning it likely isn’t the right choice for YouTubers or streamers. Still, its video quality is pretty solid — you’ll be pleased if you primarily use your webcam for Zoom calls.

Its sound quality is decent, picking up audio crisply and cleanly, but it lacks higher-end sound features such as noise cancellation. The included software, XSplit, is not recommended, and OBS is a better option due to its intuitive controls.

Its folding design lets it rest atop any laptop or computer monitor. You can fold it down for easy storage when you aren't using it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a built-in privacy cover, although you can buy a clip-on cover for around $10.

Logitech C920x price and where to buy

The Logitech C920x HD Pro Webcam costs $69.99 and can be purchased on Amazon. If you’re looking for top-notch sound, you can buy the webcam with a Yeti USB microphone for $181.92. Those without adequate room lighting may consider the C920x and Litra Glow bundle for $129.98.

How to use the Logitech C920x

The C920x is plug-and-play, although you may need an adapter if you’re using a MacBook. It focuses on the subject automatically. Our testing team tried placing their hands in front of the camera, and it still managed to focus on their faces. It automatically adjusts the video brightness to your space’s lighting conditions, but this feature isn’t as impressive.

You may need to optimize its settings to work with your room, but the default settings are pretty good for most use cases. It comes with XSplit software that lets you replace or blur your background, but the blur features on Zoom, Google Meet and OBS are much better. Our testing team felt you could skip the XSplit installation.

Logitech C920x benefits

The easy setup process is a plus for first-time webcam users. In no time at all, our testing team was able to use it for virtual meetings and video capture. The autofocus feature was fantastic and will reduce your learning curve as you try to capture the perfect video. Additionally, the video quality was crisp, especially when used in a well-lit space. Our testing team was surprised by its ability to capture natural colors.

The dual-mic sound capture works well. While it doesn’t have noise cancellation, it's adequate for video calls and vlogs. The only downside is it picks up audio from nearby sources quite loudly. Still, it was able to handle loud noises without distorting the audio.

The understated design is appreciated, since it blends in with most setups. It isn’t flashy or distracting.

Logitech C920x drawbacks

Although the video quality is high, it isn’t as crisp as 4K. The C920x isn’t overly expensive, but some 4K webcams are just as cheap. Our testing team noticed some color glitches here and there, but it wasn’t a consistent issue.

The XSplit software was the most notable letdown. It’s easy to set up and has a few useful features, but there are numerous free applications that are better.

Should you get the Logitech C920x?

This is an excellent entry-level webcam for virtual meetings and casual video recordings. The audio and video quality are above average, although it can be loud if you’re too close to the microphones. The C920x isn’t the best choice for content creators, as it doesn’t offer 4K recording or noise cancellation. If you’re unfamiliar with external webcams, you’ll love the straightforward setup process.

The video is crisper than a typical built-in webcam, so it’s a significant upgrade for those without an external camera. Still, if you want top-of-the-line video quality, you may be better off with a 4K camera. Additionally, this may not be the best choice for spaces with subpar lighting.

Aside from a minor glitch here and there, the C920x worked perfectly.
