About the product

JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Over-Ear Kids' Headphones Single Product Review

Are the JBuddies worth it?

Kids love listening to music but tend to tangle their headphones’ cords. Bluetooth headphones are a convenient way for them to enjoy their favorite music without cables getting in the way.  Still, most Bluetooth headphones lack the audio quality offered by wired headphones. JLab claims its JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones feature lab-quality sound and a kid-centric design. Our testing team gave them a look to see if they’re as good as JLab claims.

Testing the JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones

The BestReviews Testing Lab strives to investigate every claim the brand/manufacturer makes about the product. For this article, the testing team examined the JBuddies’ packaging, noting whether it appealed to children. They unboxed the headphones and reviewed the included optional aux and charging cords. The team noted whether the headphones and included accessories seemed secure in the packaging. Additionally, they examined the build quality of the headphones and accessories.

The BestReviews Testing Lab charged the headphones to see how long they took to charge fully and used the control buttons, noting whether they were user-friendly. Next, the team used the headphones to listen to music, podcasts, movies and TV shows, determining whether the audio was crisp or fuzzy. They used the headphones throughout the day to test how long they lasted when fully charged and whether the audio quality diminished as the battery was depleted.

They paid close attention to the comfort of the ear cushions and whether they felt sturdy. Finally, they used the Shareport feature to see if it was user-friendly.

What are the JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones?

The JBuddies are Bluetooth headphones designed to be comfortable for kids. These headphones have volume regulators to keep children from damaging their hearing and pinch-free hinges to keep them from hurting themselves. According to JLab, they last around 13 hours on a full charge when using Bluetooth and have a 30-foot Bluetooth range. They feature buttons on the ear cup, letting you control the volume and skip tracks.

During our testing, we discovered that the JLab Studio Bluetooth Headphones have a high-end appearance and feel designed to resemble adult headphones. A vivid blue accent offsets the neutral gray hue, creating a comfortable yet techy look.

How to use the JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones

Our testing determined that operating the JLab Studio Bluetooth Headphones is simple, particularly for children. The buttons are easy to use and the Bluetooth setup is straightforward.

The included aux cord lets you connect two sets of JBuddies, so two kids can listen to the same music or watch the same movie. This feature was intuitive, but you’ll need to have a device with a matching jack if you plan to use it. Our testing team attempted to use it with a newer-model iPad, but it wasn’t compatible.

We advise fully charging the headphones before their initial use and establishing a suitable volume threshold for your child.

JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones benefits

The ear cushions of the JLab Studio Bluetooth Headphones are comfortable, particularly for smaller ears. As long as the headpiece is adjusted correctly, the ear cushions feel stable and don't seem likely to detach. However, the testing team felt that the headpiece could benefit from additional cushioning for improved comfort.

The audio quality was pretty impressive. The sound was clearest while watching movies on Netflix and listening to music on Spotify, while some volume adjustment was needed for YouTube videos. The sound quality remained consistent across various volume levels, and no significant differences were observed for different types of audio content. Additionally, the testing team didn’t notice any degradation in quality as the battery drained.

They feature a stylish design, and the Shareport functionality was a nice bonus.

JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones drawbacks

The metal wire on the headphones detracts from the otherwise stylish design. Our testing team noted that JLab could have incorporated more childlike design elements. Additionally, these headphones didn’t come with a carrying pouch or case, so you may have to buy one if your kid has trouble taking care of electronics.

JLab advertises a 13-hour battery life when using Bluetooth and a 24-hour battery life when using the included aux cord. Per our testing team, these claims may not be entirely accurate.

Should you get the JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones?

Based on our evaluation, the JLab JBuddies Studio Bluetooth Kids' Headphones are super for children who are into gaming or listening to music. They function well for broader use, with easy Bluetooth connectivity, user-friendly controls and impressive sound quality. Depending on your child's preferences, they may be the right addition to their electronics collection.

However, if you're looking for headphones with a more playful and colorful design, you should explore other options. Additionally, if the battery life is a crucial factor for you, remember that these headphones might not last through the full 24 hours of playtime advertised by JLab.
