About the product

We tested the Dreo Cruiser and found it to be a nearly flawless tower fan

Home-appliance brand Dreo takes pride in its innovative cooling and heating technologies for the home. According to the brand, the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 can provide faster air circulation than other fans, and its cooling breezes extend to nearly 30 feet. Dreo credits its specialized high-torque motor and super-precision bearings for all this superior cooling power. But does this tower fan live up to all of Dreo’s promises?

To find out, the BestReviews Testing Lab put the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 through its paces and came away very impressed. We found it packages top-of-the-line airflow and cooling efficiency with several excellent modes, and we gave it good scores for its relatively quiet operation and ease of use. If you decide to invest in it, you should be satisfied for years to come.

Product specifications

Speed settings: 6 | Height: 41.73” | Airflow: 24 ft/s | Weight: 9.79 lb | Oscillation: 90 degrees

An all-around impressive tower fan, the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 has six fan speeds to choose from, and all of them are excellent — even the middle settings are powerful. For example, when we used the fourth setting, the airflow clocked at 7.6 miles per hour within the first 3 feet and was 1.8 miles per hour at 15 feet.

Its four modes further expand what this tower fan can do. In addition to Normal mode, the Sleep mode slowly lowers the fan speed until it shuts off for the night, which we found worked perfectly. There is also a Natural mode that creates intermittent wind patterns by cycling between high and low speeds (which we thought felt a little unnatural, to be honest). The Auto mode changes the fan speed based on the surrounding temperature. It’s easy to switch between modes using the remote control, which we loved for its high-quality feel and snappy responsiveness.

Though Dreo claims its fan is very quiet (34 decibels on the quietest setting), we found it to be slightly louder than similar fans we tested on the highest settings. This fan’s fifth and sixth speed settings were 52 and 53.1 decibels, respectively, which is a few points higher than most others. (For comparison, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 60 decibels is as loud as the average air conditioner, while the hum of a refrigerator is 40 decibels.) It is whisper quiet at low speeds, though, including a reading of just 41.1 decibels on the second speed setting.

Price and where to buy

The Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 retails for $89.99. You can find it on Amazon and Walmart.

Why we like it

Airflow and cooling efficiency

The Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 has superb airflow and cooling efficiency. At speed setting four out of six, we recorded the breeze at 2.5 miles per hour 9 feet from the fan, and still picked up 1.8 miles per hour at 15 feet away. After only a few minutes, our testing room was significantly cooler and more comfortable.

Multiple settings

Top-notch fans give you plenty of options to suit your needs, and the Dreo does just that. It features six speed settings, which all felt significantly different from each other, and its four modes (Sleep, Natural, Auto and Normal) all worked exactly as described. Plus, there is a timer you can set for up to 12 hours.

Great controls

The controls on the tower are responsive, and they don’t take much pressure to push, so there are no worries about the fan toppling over. It also comes with a remote which feels great in the hand and works perfectly.

Style

We like the oblong oval shape and sleek look of the fan, which features just enough silver accents to be stylish without being gaudy.

What we don’t like

Peak decibels

Its peak decibel reading was 53.1, which is a few points higher than the quietest fans we tested. However, its low and middle speed settings are very quiet.

Minor instability

We noticed a little instability in the tower’s base, no more than a brief, tiny wobble. Still, we’d recommend not placing it on a carpeted surface to be safe.

Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 Tower Fan setup

If you need to take the fan apart to move or repackage it, be careful with the footplate. The clips that hold it together are fragile.

Setting up the Cruiser is a breeze. Start by lifting the tower out of the box and discarding all the cardboard packaging. Remove the two parts of the footplate and snap them together. Thread the power cord through the completed footplate, attach the plate to the tower and position the fan where you want it. Plug it in, press the power button, set your desired speed and mode and prepare to feel cooler in no time.

Design and construction

Place the fan on hard flooring. The base is slightly unstable on thick carpets or rugs.

We liked the plain black look of this Dreo, with its silver accents that draw attention to the controls and brand name. It makes it easy to find when you need it, and it fades into the background when you don’t. A compartment at the back of the fan is handy for storing the remote.

However, based on the tower’s price, we felt the quality of the plastic was slightly below what we expected. It doesn’t have to be the high-grade aluminum used on a Dyson, but something that doesn’t sound and feel quite so disposable would have been better. It’s also odd because the remote is clearly made of better plastic. We also noticed that the base can be slightly unsteady. It wasn’t unsteady enough on a hard floor to concern us, but it would be unwise to place it on softer surfaces, such as thick carpeting.

Features and functionality

The testing team loved the fan’s whisper-quiet Sleep mode.

The features and functionality of the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 can be broken down into four airflow modes and oscillation.

  • Normal mode: This is the standard function of most fans. It blows air at a set speed and a set direction without any changes.
  • Natural mode: This cycles between a high and a low speed to mimic wind patterns. We thought this felt a little unnatural and disliked the changing noise levels between the speeds, but the right person might appreciate it.
  • Sleep mode: This switches off the display, turns off the beeping noise when changing settings and slowly lowers the fan speed down to zero through the night. It worked perfectly.
  • Auto mode: This mode adjusts the current speed automatically based on changing ambient temperature. Unfortunately, the Testing Lab’s temperature was too stable to properly test this.
  • Oscillation: The Cruiser Pro T1 offers standard 90-degree oscillation.

Controls and display

To avoid losing the small remote, store it in the compartment in the back of the fan.

The Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 places a large, bright screen at the top of the fan with responsive controls below it. We appreciate the included remote, which has equally responsive controls. The remote also feels high quality.

How does it compare to other Dreo tower fans we’ve tested?

We tested two other Dreo tower fans: the Nomad One and the Pilot Max S. The Nomad One costs slightly less, though we think its performance was actually better than the Cruiser Pro T1. The Pilot Max S costs nearly double the Cruiser, but its performance and smart capability are well worth the price. We should also note that for just $10 more, you can get the Cruiser Pro T1S, which is a T1 upgrade that includes smart capabilities.

Testing the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 Tower Fan

Right angle view of Dreo Cruiser Pro T1
The testing team evaluated the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1’s performance, build quality and noise level.

We ran four tests on the Cruiser Pro T1.

  • Airflow power and reach: This recorded the speed in miles per hour and distance reached by speed setting four (of six).
  • Operational modes’ effectiveness: We ran through all the modes, testing the performance and viability of each one.
  • Noise level: We checked the decibel count of the room with the fan at each speed setting on Normal mode.
  • Design and construction evaluation: We checked the durability, material quality and stability of the fan.

Should you get the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1 Tower Fan?

The testing team was impressed by the Dreo Cruiser Pro T1’s performance.

We have no hesitation saying the Cruiser Pro T1 is well worth buying. Its performance is fantastic, it has a great selection of modes and the cost is about right for what you get.
