About the product

Spinning pads set this winning combo robot apart

Vacuum-mop combo robots have been around for a few years and typically involve an attached mopping pad on the bottom of a robot-vacuum unit. The Roborock Q Revo, however, takes a different route, with two tufted mopping pads spinning at up to 200 rpm to get at even the most embedded dirt and stains on your hard floors.

The BestReviews Testing Lab examined the Q Revo along with several other Roborock combo robots and found it to be the most appealing of them all, with powerful suction, excellent mapping, reliable navigation and solid battery life.

What is the Roborock Q Revo?

What is the Roborock Q Revo?
The Roborock Q Revo was released in the summer of 2023.

Battery life: 75 min | Dimensions: 13.78” L x 13.9” W x 3.8” H | Dustbin capacity: 0.35 L | Weight: 10 lb | Mapping: Yes

The Roborock Q Revo is a combination vacuum-and-mop robot. It’s round, about 14 inches across, and 3.8 inches high (including its navigation turret in the center). It has a small built-in dustbin with a 0.35-liter capacity, and it weighs 10 pounds.

The Roborock Q Revo comes with a multifunctional dock that measures 22 inches high. It offers a 2.7-liter dust bag for the robot’s self-emptying bin plus two tanks to hold clean and used water for the robot’s mop. The dock offers automated filling of the Q Revo’s internal tank and automated rinsing and drying of its mop pads.

The Q Revo packs 5,500 Pa of suction power. It has a single rubber roller for agitation and pickup of dirt on both carpet and hard flooring and a single side brush for corners and edges. Its two textured mop pads spin at up to 200 rpm and lift up to 7 millimeters from the bottom of the wheels while traveling over carpet. The Q Revo uses LiDAR for mapping, navigation and real-time object avoidance. It’s available in black or white.

Price and where to buy

The Roborock Q Revo retails for $899.99. It’s available on Amazon and Walmart.

Why we like it

Excellent navigation

We were impressed by the Roborock Q Revo’s excellent navigation and mapping capabilities. It mapped an 800-square-foot apartment in only 10 minutes and successfully avoided tall obstacles in its path.

Effective vacuuming

The Q Revo performed well in our vacuum tests, picking up small, medium and large particulates from medium-pile carpet and hard flooring with above-average efficiency.

Spinning mop pads

The Q Revo’s dual spinning mop pads performed more thoroughly than the single vibrating mop pads of other mop vacuums, digging deeper into stubborn stains.

What we don’t like

Carpet pet hair performance

While the Q Revo successfully lifted pet hair from hard flooring, it had some trouble removing all the test fibers from medium-pile carpet, leaving some visibly behind.

Small built-in dustbin

The Q Revo’s built-in dustbin was one of the smallest we’d seen in any robot vacuum we tested. Its 0.35-liter capacity quickly filled up during our pet-hair tests. Using the self-emptying multifunction dock is a necessity.

Loud self-empty suction

Unlike the robot itself, the multifunctional dock’s self-empty process was unpleasantly loud, reaching 79 to 80 decibels while it ran.

Roborock Q Revo setup

Roborock Q Revo Setup
The Q Revo uses voice feedback available in multiple languages. You can also turn off voice feedback completely and rely only on less intrusive alert sounds.

The Roborock Q Revo was straightforward to set up. Like other Roborock models tested, it arrived in a glossy product box packed with molded styrofoam blocks, which was disappointingly not as eco-friendly as competitors’ packaging. The multifunction dock should be set up first, and it comes with a dust bag preinstalled. Remove the tap from the two water tanks and install the robot’s landing pad at the base of the dock. Fill the clean-water tank with water and replace it in the dock.

Meanwhile, attach the two mop pads to the bottom of the Q Revo robot by snapping them into place. Download the Roborock app and use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code located under the robot’s dustbin lid before placing the Q Revo in its dock. It took 30 seconds for the robot to register to Wi-Fi.

Vacuuming performance and suction power

Vacuuming performance and suction power
While the self-empty function is convenient, it’s not always necessary, and it helps to check the built-in dustbin yourself for clogs from time to time.

The Roborock Q Revo offers 5,500 Pa of suction power, nearly as much as Roborock’s highest-end models. It has only a single roller, which limits its mechanical pickup capability, but its suction seemed to make up for that in our tests. The roller features rubber ribs in a spiral pattern that made it tangle-free during testing.

The Q Revo removed 80% to 85% of granulated sugar from medium-pile carpet on a single pass and practically all table salt from vinyl plank flooring. It removed almost all the spilled breakfast cereal from both carpet and hard flooring, although it did bulldoze some pieces out of its way, especially on hard floor. It removed all visible trace of faux fur used to simulate pet hair from hard flooring, but it left some fibers behind on medium-pile carpet. It removed almost all pieces of scattered pet litter from hard flooring as well.

It had a little trouble, like most round robot vacuums, cleaning small particulates from corners on both carpet and hard flooring, but it did very well removing particulates from under dining tables and chairs. As for noise, the Q Revo registered 59 to 60 dB while vacuuming on carpet, and 61 to 62 dB on hard flooring, which was not as loud as other Roborock models.

Mopping performance

Mopping performance
You can adjust the speed, strength and water level of the mop function from the Roborock app.

The Roborock Q Revo made quick work of an ounce of spilled water on hard vinyl plank flooring, mopping up all the liquid completely with no visible drops left. The floor was only slightly damp afterward.

The Q Revo’s mopping pads successfully removed ingrained grime and stuck-on messes on vinyl tile as well, although the stuck-on mess required two passes and setting the “Deep Mop” option in the Roborock app.

The multifunction dock automatically washes and dries the Q Revo’s mop pads after use. It’s straightforward to empty the used-water tank and refill the clean-water tank, as the app informs you when to take those steps. Being able to see the mop pads spin at high rpm helped assure us it was working, compared to other robots that use what’s billed as “ultrasonic vibrations” we can’t see. When the Q Revo travels over carpet, it lifts its mop pads 7 millimeters above its base to keep the carpet dry. This was mostly effective except for on higher-pile carpeting.

Navigation and battery life

Navigation and battery life
The Q Revo tackles the edges and perimeter of a room first before cleaning the rest in orderly rows.

The Roborock Q Revo uses LiDAR scanning from a laser turret at the top-center of the robot. It quickly produced an accurate map of our test area, taking only 10 minutes in an 800-square-foot multiroom space. The map updates continuously while the robot is in use as well. Once mapped, the Q Revo navigates to specific rooms and areas directly without needing to bump or feel its way around walls or furniture. One notable exception, however, was with floor-length mirrors, which the Q Revo mistook for open space.

The Q Revo cleans in an outside-in pattern, tackling the edges and perimeter first before doing the rest of the room in orderly rows. Its LiDAR tower did a solid job detecting obstacles placed in its path, as long as they were taller than the robot’s 4-inch height and it was given enough time to map. For instance, when we suddenly stepped in front of the Q Revo, it bumped into us, but if we stood in front of it at a distance, it had time to detect us and go around.

The Q Revo comes with a 5,200 mAH lithium-ion rechargeable battery. In testing it lasted 75 minutes over six separate cleaning jobs with 16% charge still remaining when it returned to its dock to top up. It took two hours and 50 minutes to charge from 18% back to 100%. Vacuuming and mopping 485 square feet took 60 minutes.

App and voice control

App and voice control
The Pin-and-Go feature lets you designate a specific area for the Q Revo to clean without having to bring it there yourself.

The Roborock app packs a lot of power, but we weren’t completely pleased with its layout and usability, finding that many options were hidden beneath too many nested menus or obscure interface elements. Setting up cleaning and no-go zones occurred in separate screens, and while the app is supposed to suggest no-go zones, we didn’t receive any during the course of our testing. The app didn’t subdivide rooms well, and we had to manually edit those room borders.

Setting up the Q Revo to respond to Alexa was straightforward and typical of adding other skills to Alexa. Once set up, the robot responded well to Alexa commands. It also can work with Siri and Google Assistant.

How does it compare to other vacuums we’ve tested?

The Roborock Q Revo compares favorably among vacuums we’ve tested. Despite its slightly lower suction and single roller, it cleaned as well or better than the Roborock S7 Max Ultra or the S8 Pro Ultra. The Q Revo’s multifunction dock was taller and narrower than those of the Roborock S7 or S8, making it more convenient in tighter quarters, and the robot parks directly in the dock rather than having to turn and rotate like the S7 and S8.

Testing the Roborock Q Revo

Testing the Roborock Q Revo
The testing team evaluated the Q Revo’s suction and mopping performance, its mapping features and more.

We tested the Roborock Q Revo in an 800-square-foot space with approximately 485 square feet of floor area (86% carpet and 14% hard flooring). We tested its suction capability using fine and coarse particulates on both carpet and hard flooring, as well as snippets of 2-inch-long faux fur to simulate pet hair and standard clay-based pet litter. We measured out specific amounts of each test substance and observed how much was left over after a single pass of the robot, noting efficiency, noise and navigation. We tested the mop functions on the hard flooring with spills of water and juice, and we rated its performance removing stuck-on dirt and grime.

We evaluated the convenience and ease of the Q Revo’s packaging and setup, timing how long it took to set up its app and connect to Wi-Fi. We also timed how long it took to complete an initial map of the test space, how long it took to complete both general cleaning and spot cleaning, and how long it took to drain and recharge the battery. We noted its accuracy of navigation and how well it responded to obstacles.

We also graded the Q Revo on its noise, both during cleaning and in its dock, its ease of maintenance and upkeep, and on the usability of its software. Finally, we tested how easy it was to reset the Q Revo and how it compared to other tested robot vacuums.

Should you get the Roborock Q Revo?

Should you get the Roborock Q Revo?
The testing team was impressed by the Q Revo’s overall performance and capabilities.

The Roborock Q Revo is not Roborock’s flagship robot vacuum-mop combo, but it performed as well or better and was one of the best surprises of our robot-vacuum testing. While it’s a little pricey at about $900, it’s an excellent all-around multipurpose cleaning robot. And if you can get it on sale, it’s one of the best options on the market.
